Call 361-235-0100 for The Wing Shooting Adventure of a Lifetime!
Avian Skies is a coastal Texas wing shooting operation located in the heart of the Texas Gulf Coast Prairie. We offer fantastic opportunities to hunt mourning dove, white-winged dove, blue winged teal, ducks, geese, and sandhill cranes. Avian Skies is conveniently located two hours from Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Corpus Christi in the rural farming community of Edna, Texas.
The Texas Coastal Prairie is a unique ecosystem consisting of native prairie grassland, ranch land, coastal wetlands, and diverse farming practices that include rice, corn, and sorghum production. This combination of agriculture, ranching, and ecosystem create prime habitat for migratory game birds.
Starting every September, Mourning Doves and White-Winged Doves begin their migration. Texas alone is home to an estimated 2.2 million White-Winged Doves and Avian Skies is situated at their northern range. Even more impressive is the fact that the United States has an estimated population of 400 million Mourning Doves. Many of these birds are located in the Central Flyway and migrate to Texas every fall.
Avian Skies is the place to be to hunt doves if you do not want to travel outside the United States to enjoy a high quality dove hunting experience. Many hours are spent on your Texas dove hunt before you even arrive.

Waterfowl hunting on the Texas Gulf Coast, where Avian Skies is located, is simply world class. Texas truly is a waterfowl hunter's premier destination. Every fall waterfowl season kicks off in
September. Blue Winged Teal are warm weather birds and are the first waterfowl to migrate to points further south. However, due to their long migration they must stop to rest. That resting location is the central Texas Gulf Coast. These birds have a short, but predictable migration time frame. What that means is that the time frame to hunt them is short, but the opportunity to have a successful hunt is great! If you have never had the opportunity to hunt Blue Winged Teal, book your hunt with Avian Skies to find out what all the hype is about.
Avian Skies actively participates in field and wetland management for both Doves and Waterfowl. We care about the quality and quantity of wildlife available to our customers and do the best
we can to ensure that an enjoyable experience will be taken home. Our Texas hunting ranch also utilizes the best equipment available including four-wheelers for transportation, quality blinds for concealment (if applicable), comfortable seats in the blind and well-manicured decoys for great decoying bird action.
We also recognize that the little things make a big difference in your experience during a hunt. That is why we are also the only wing shooting operation to have a Veterinarian on Call, plenty of free ice-cold bottled water on hand, use Mojo Doves and Dove Decoys on every dove hunt, and provide transportation into the field so you don't have to walk. We also use comfortable, dry blinds during our teal and duck hunts. This means no lying down, no sitting in the mud, no sticks stuck in the side of a levee being called a "blind". You sit in a well brushed, comfortable, stable, dry blind so all you have to do is enjoy the experience. Our goose and sandhill crane hunts are conducted out of layout blinds if field conditions allow.
Our guides number one goal is to ensure that you have an enjoyable, fun experience. They are all experienced professionals. During a hunt they make sure that safety and proper bird identification are the top priorities. They constantly monitor the whole hunt to ensure all aspects and needs of your hunt are met. This enables you to have the personal experience you deserve without having to worry about the details. Our waterfowl guides are some of the best in the waterfowl hunting industry. They are well versed in all aspects of waterfowl hunting, experienced, and will simply make your hunt a joy! If you want to learn about waterfowl hunting, these are the guys to learn from. They work hard to provide a quality hunt and even harder to provide the personal service you deserve!
The weather during September and October is often hot in Texas. What does that mean for your dove hunt? It means blistering hot gun barrels!!! Our morning (AM) Dove hunts typically begin around daybreak and all hunts end at noon. Often times our hunts are finished by around 10 AM. This puts you back in a cool place before the heat gets too bad. We leave for our evening dove hunts at 3 PM. While it is still plenty warm during this time, it allows us to get set up before the evening flight occurs. That flight generally starts around 4 PM. All hunts end at sun down per federal and state law. During a Waterfowl hunt you will meet your guide at the predetermined time. Shooting time begins 30 minutes before "sun up" and is over by noon. Often times our Teal hunts are so fast and furious we limit out within the first hour of your hunt. The fastest time we have for had for limiting out was 8 minutes after legal shooting time began!!! Now that is some fast action. It doesn't get any better than that.
As is the case with most things in life, it is the small details that make a big difference. Avian Skies cares about you and realize that these details are the difference maker in the quality of your hunt. We provide services to our customers that are simply over looked by other "hunting operations." We realize that many wing shooters have dogs and they play an important role in their lives. That is why we do our best to make sure that your dog is safe and well taken care of during your hunt. We offer a "Veterinarian On Call" service for all our guest's dogs. We are oftentimes 30 minutes or less from this office in the event that emergency care is needed. This ensures that prompt care and attention will be given to your dog in the event it needs it. Another nuance Avian Skies addresses is the heat and bugs.
All our guides carry plenty of ice cold bottled drinking water and bug dope with them during your hunt. These items are available to everyone and can make the difference and can ensure you have a comfortable Texas duck hunting or dove hunting experience. No need to swat mosquitoes or worry about dehydration. We have that aspect of your hunt covered. One final point of interest is the use of dove decoys and Mojo doves. These two items are proven to help attract doves closer to you. This means that instead of having a dove just out of gunning range they are landing by the decoy, which means more shooting for you! These items are used on every dove hunt with great success. If you have never used a Mojo Dove or Dove Decoys we highly recommend them!
Simply put, Avian Skies cares about you and your wing shooting experience. Book your hunt now to have the wing shooting experience you deserve!
